Hypnosis or being in trance, is a natural state of relaxation, confusion or intense concentration, in which you have heightened focus, while being freed from everyday cares and concerns. In this relaxed state, the subconscious mind is enabled to easily act upon positive suggestions supplied by the hypnotist, to create change in your life in a very profound way.
Many clients have suggested that hypnosis feels like a dreamlike, meditative experience. Whether you realize it or not, you likely experience hypnosis daily. Have you ever driven home from somewhere and wondered how you got there upon arrival? Or zoned out while watching a TV program or while reading a book, only to discover that hours have passed? Or sat looking out a window, until someone asks you a question that you don’t hear until after they have repeated the question a few times? You were in a hypnotic state!
Anyone with reasonable intelligence, who can follow simple instruction and with a “want” to be hypnotized. Those who have mental dysfunction or children under the age of 5 may not be able to be because of communication issues such us understanding the words and/or the inability to follow simple instruction. The depth to which a person can go into trance is different for each person.
It is quite the opposite. In fact, you are wide awake, much like when we daydream. While under hypnosis, you are in a state known as “hypersensitivity.” In this state, your senses are all magnified, allowing you to be able to focus on what your practitioner is saying and clearly use all of your senses as to what is going on in your mind.
No actually, you are in complete control of yourself at all times. You can choose to go into hypnosis, and you can choose to come out of hypnosis at any time. A trained practitioner would never just leave you in a hypnotic state. But, if they did for some unforeseen reason, you would return to full consciousness on your own. You may have a great nap first, but you would return to consciousness naturally.
Only if you want to. Hypnosis is not a magic potion that allows the practitioner to make a client cluck like a chicken or tell your darkest secrets. If a practitioner asked you to rob a bank for them, you would probably just come out of trance. (Unless this is something that you have no trouble doing anyways!)
If you consider sitting in a recliner, watching Netflix dangerous, then hypnosis will be too. 😉 The only real side effect of hypnosis is you will become very relaxed. Fun fact: Every 15 minutes you spend in hypnosis is equal to approximately four hours of sleep!
Yes, the whole time! Being in trance does not mean that you are unconscious, asleep, under or out. You are in a state known as “hypersensitivity.” In this state, all of your senses are magnified. Nothing happens without your permission. You have complete power. Yet you are extremely relaxed.
Yes, clients remember everything that is said, seen, felt, etc. In rare instances, the practitioner may need to jog the clients mind about a few things, but this usually triggers the rest of the memory.
There are some techniques that require a practitioner to touch your hand/wrist, shoulder or forehead. This being said, a practitioner will ask your permission before starting your hypnosis session and will only employ these techniques to ensure you have the best session possible i.e. to make sure you are properly relaxed or to help you into a deeper state of hypnosis.
No, you will not do anything that goes against your values and principles. If you are asked to do something that goes against your nature, you would simply come out of hypnosis to end the session. Remember, you will hear everything that is said. You are in complete control of yourself the whole time.
